We Are The Walking Dead

Although I’d like to count myself amongst the living, I’ve tried everything but can’t seem to shake this feeling.

Over the years I’ve become a man with accomplished goals but yet I still hunger for more. My work ethic is what they adore.

I fear spending years behind a desk or settling for much less at somebody else’s request.

I refuse to neglect my family, my heart or this passion. All for what, the acceptance of others, while fools chase the latest fashion.

I’m surrounded my men & women who all look alike and have that same look in their eyes. Alive, but not living. Surviving but never giving.

What on earth have I wasted my whole life chasing? Better yet, who’s ahead of me that has altered the rate in which I’m pacing.

I don’t want to just go through the motions like the waves atop of the bluest oceans. I denounce walking through life with the objective to simply consume like a zombie.

I simply wish to be counted amongst the living.

About Lazarus_of_Montserrado

Lazarus (Hebrew: “God will help”) Siafa was born in Monrovia, Liberia, West Africa. A once abundantly prosperous and promising nation that was crippled by poverty, violence and corruption in the late 80’s to early 90’s due to a Civil War that lasted approximately 14 years. This blog is a collection of thought provoking, spirit lifting and ambition driven poems as well as spoken word written by Lazarus for those who share a similar dream and perception of life. The vision that no matter the obstacle, failure, setback, trial or loss in life that you hold the power to overcome it all. You may have been born to lose but in time can be built to win and God willing can accomplish whatever your heart desires.
